10 min Open Forum
Reuben - Grateful that this fellowship and rooms exist and are kept going
NancyD has emailed that she wishes the following to be added to the Open Forum if possible:
If possible, please add my comment below to the 10 minute open forum at the end of the meeting.
As we come back from the restrictions of the past year & the pandemic, I am looking back at the gifts we have been given. For myself, I have been fortunate to stay healthy & active all year. I have even been able to attend in-person meetings frequently. (I am also AA & some local AA clubhouses were declared "essential businesses" early in the year.) One of the big gifts of 12-step recovery has obviously been the ability of more groups to offer meetings online. Many in-person meetings made the transition fairly easily & will continue to offer both online & in-person meetings well into the future. I'm sure this will allow more access for people who don't have in-person meetings available locally. However, one of the things I have mentioned several times is that our SLAA Online group is advertised to offer 24/7 support for our members, as well as newcomers struggling with sex & love addiction. In this regard, I feel we have failed miserably during this past year. Many, many times I have checked into our chatroom between scheduled meetings only to find it totally empty. Or worse, to find a newcomer who needed to talk with someone & found nobody there. Our chatroom once was active 24/7, with members from all over the world stopping by for support & fellowship at all hours of the day & night. Sadly, this is no longer happening & I'm concerned that newcomers are not being supported. Thanks for listening & for giving some consideration to this issue. NancyD
troy - i have noticed the situation described above by NancyD. our #slaa room is open 24/7 and member presence there for others seeking support is always positive but cannot be guaranteed. members are encouraged to help each other but there is no specific requiremement on members for level of presence. i encourage members to be present as they can. thx.

troy - re: The 12 Steps and 12 Traditions of S.L.A.A. book. i am on the book committee for this book, which has now been extended to 12x12x12 to include the 12 concepts (for service). the ifd for the abc/m now includes 12 steps, 12 tradions and the first 5 concepts. this is a major work which has been in process for some years now. hopefully a complete version will be ready for the 2022 abc/m. i think the book will be a great addition to our literature as we currently do not have an slaa equivalent of the aa 12x12 essays. the current draft is available and may be used/reviewed by slaa groups
troy - re: Basic Text for a 50th Anniversary and/or 2nd Edition. i personally think that this 1986 text would benefit best from a heavy edit in a new version. the existing original version is dated, which reflects sexist and heterosexual and male bias, which could be addressed. this would tho be a major project, and a light edit would go quicker. my personal preference is tho still for a heavy edit. thx.
